SHOOBY STILL SERVES ARK DAY DETAILS - OCT 18 IN TWO DAYS!

I hope you are thinking of what ARKs (Acts of Random Kindness) you will do to honor Matt Shubzda this Thursday Oct 18, the 10-yr anniversary when Matt's jet collided with another and he went to heaven. Matt was always serving others, so we're going to carry the torch for him and keep his serving spirit alive! And don't forget to post your ARK to the FB page: www.facebook.com/shoobystillserves so his family/friends can know how Shooby Still Serves through you.

Sample ARKs: babysitting for a single mom or family with a deployed service member; free lawn work for an elderly neighbor; surprising a widow with something he/she needs; pro-bono work for a business you run; buying someone's groceries at the store; buying someone's lunch at McDonald's; buying something for a family who has lost a child in remembrance of their child; finally deciding to sign up and serve at a local homeless shelter/children or women's shelter/soup kitchen; having a garage sale and donating the proceeds to a charity, calling your local VFW and seeing how you can help serve veterans such as helping unemployed veterans find a job; reaching out to someone you have had a strained relationship with and starting over. There are just so many things we can do to serve others! It just requires your time, heart (and in some cases, a little bit of your money.)

If you available and are local to Garland, please join us to do ARKs!

We have 3 places we will be doing ARKs in Garland, Texas this Thursday around lunch time:
1) serving folks Subway sandwiches outside of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) building.
2) giving baby items, food, toiletries clothing and cash/checks to New Beginning Center (shelter for women/children).
3) giving canned food, clothing and cash/checks to the Garland VFW post for veterans in need.

We are meeting at the Generator Coffee House on the square in downtown Garland (107 N. 6th St Garland, Texas) at 11AM and will disperse and meet up at the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC)/New Beginning Center (they are across the street from each other) to perform ARKs.

An NBC Channel 5 news crew will be following us around performing these ARKs but don't let that keep you from coming! You do not have to do an interview! The ARK story will air Friday, Oct 19 on the NBC 5 Dallas morning show between 5-7 AM.

Please email Cortney Schwalbe, coordinator of Shooby Still Serves and the ARK day at cortneyschwalbe@gmail.com if you are coming and you will receive an email with more details about Thursday!

If you can't come or aren't local to Garland, please consider donating the following items we need for the women's/children's shelter and veterans in need. (Email Cortney at cortneyschwalbe@gmail.com for info on where to drop off these donations.)

- Clothes of all kinds; men, women's, children's
- Baby food, formula, diapers, wipes, baby supplies
- Toiletries; regular or travel-sized (any biz travelers out there have a stash?) e.g., shampoos, conditioners, deodorants, soaps, etc.
- Boxed food and canned goods
- Monetary donations for us to buy these things.

For monetary donations, we are accepting cash, paypal donations (preferred) and checks (email Cortney for info on paypal and where to send checks).

Let's make this a special day of service in honor and memory of such an awesome man. We can ALL make sure SHOOBY STILL SERVES through ARKs!

If you cannot do an ARK on Thursday, just do it when you can.

**** PLEASE don't forget to post your ARK on the FB page: www.facebook.com/shoobystillserves. You can give as much or as little detail as you want about your ARK. If you're doing an ARK in the future, just post what you/your family plan on doing! ****

SHOOBY STILL SERVES DETAILS

Oct 18, 2012 marks the 10th anniversary of our beloved Matty Seth "Shooby" Shubzda, going to heaven after his F/A-18 jet collided with another jet in mid-air during a Navy "dog-fighting" training exercise. http://www.texnews.com/1998/2002/texas/texas_Navy_pilo1021.html
Matt served others well, whether it was pooling together money from midshipmen so his best friend/roommate's dad could attend USNA graduation, or taking his $200 Bingo winnings and spending it all to give a family in need a beautiful Christmas. He was always doing...

ACTS OF RANDOM KINDNESS
So we're going to keep Shooby's spirit alive; to honor 10 years without his servant's heart on this Earth.
HOW CAN YOU MAKE SURE "SHOOBY STILL SERVES"?

1) Do an ARK (ACT OF RANDOM KINDNESS) on Sept 17, 2012 (Matt's birthday) and/or the anniversary of the accident, Oct 18, 2012 to honor someone. Even better, if it's a military family in need, a young widow, or a family who has lost a child.
** Often the "giver" is blessed as much (or even more) than the "receiver" when the gift is done personally. **

2) Post your ARK on the SSS facebook page http://facebook.com/shoobystillserves so his family/friends can be blessed to know how SHOOBY STILL SERVES through you.

3) We realize doing an ARK may be hard due to busy schedules or not knowing someone in need. For this scenario, you may donate money and/or gift cards to help 3 military enlisted families in need in the DFW area, Annapolis, MD and Arkansas.

Cortney Schwalbe, married to Ken Schwalbe USNA '98 who is currently deployed to Afghanistan is coordinating the effort of gathering money and/or gift cards for these military families in need.

Ken and Cortney met at Matt's wedding in 2002 (Cortney was Matt’s best friend growing up and Ken was Matt’s best friend/roommate at USNA) and they began dating a few months after Matt's accident. On Jan 6, 2009, they named their first-born child, Matthew Phillip after him. Born 3 months early, their son joined Shooby in heaven after only 5 days on this earth.
This is not a registered non-profit and you won't get a receipt for donating, so there are no tax write-off advantages. If you choose to donate money, you are giving money to the Schwalbe's to be a part of an ARK to help military families in need. Whether you choose to give to these military families or find a your own special way to bless someone in need, you will get something far better than a receipt for tax advantages. What you will get is an eternal reward knowing you have continued the legacy of service in honor of Matt "Shooby" Shubzda.
If you wish to make a monetary and/or gift card donation for military families in need, please email Cortney at shoobystillserves@gmail.com for mailing address and/or paypal account info. $20 makes a difference!
